Falls Park on the Reedy is a 32-acre (130,000-m2) park in the historic West End section of Greenville, South Carolina. The park was formed in 1967 when the Carolina Foothills Garden Club recovered 26 acres (110,000 m2) of land that had previously been utilized by textile mills. It is considered the birthplace of Greenville. Under Mayor Knox H. White, renovations intensified in the late 1990s, leading to the foundation of the Falls Park Endowment, a private organization that supports continued development. Falls Park on the Reedy, located in downtown Greenville’s Historic West End, is far more than a nature lover’s delight. It is one of Greenville’s finest assets. The park acts as a metropolitan oasis, bringing people together to work, play, and celebrate life. A broad range of activities for individuals of all ages and interests are available at the multi-use facility. The park features flower gardens and strolling routes that wind peacefully around the famed Reedy River Falls (yes, a waterfall in the center of downtown!). These routes are frequently clogged with people taking leisurely strolls along the riverbanks, frequently accompanied by their four-legged companions. The Upstate Shakespeare Festival takes place in the park every summer. Thousands of brides, prom-goers, and nature lovers flock to Falls Park every year to see wooden sword-wielding kings during the Upstate Shakespeare Festival, families sprawled out in front of classic movies shown under the stars two months of the year, and thousands of brides, prom-goers, and nature lovers as it serves as the backdrop for special occasions. Within and around the park, there are several pieces of public art. The Wyche Sculpture Committee, made up of Wyche family members and friends, commissioned the sculpture “Rose Crystal Tower” by globally known artist Dale Chihuly to honor Harriet Wyche, the garden’s namesake. Falls Lake Falls is the second in a series of three sculptures (the first is in Tokyo) and the only one of its sort on the continent. “Untitled 2002-2003” by Joel Shapiro is also known as the dancing or running sculpture and has sparked a lot of debate. Ed Zeigler, Charles Gunning, and Robert Brown designed the “Sunflower Fountain” in Pedrick’s Garden. Falls Park on the Reedy is unquestionably the city’s highlight attraction, with not only spectacular waterfalls and lush greenery but also the gorgeous Liberty Bridge. It is popular with both locals and visitors since it is located in the center of downtown, just steps away from a plethora of stores, restaurants, and activities. There are beautiful trails to walk along, as well as picnic places, public art projects, and beautiful green spaces.
